Understanding Nursery Fees and Funding in Edinburgh
As a parent, understanding the cost of childcare is one of the first steps in selecting the right nursery. In Edinburgh, nursery fees can vary depending on the nursery’s facilities, age group of the children, and level of care provided. Fortunately, there are several funding options available to help make childcare more affordable for families. In this blog, we’ll break down nursery fees at Cranley Nursery and highlight the funding opportunities that can ease the financial burden.

Funding and Subsidies for Nursery Fees in Edinburgh
To make childcare more accessible, there are several funding options available to parents in Edinburgh. Here’s a closer look at the main schemes that can help reduce costs:
Tax-Free Childcare
Parents may be eligible for the Tax-Free Childcare scheme, a government initiative that provides up to £2,000 per year for each child under 12. For every £8 you pay into your childcare account, the government adds £2. This scheme is ideal for working parents and can significantly offset nursery costs.
Early Years Funding (1140 Free Hours)
Eligible children aged 3-5 years (and some 2-year-olds) can benefit from up to 1,140 hours of funded childcare per year, as part of the Scottish Government’s initiative. Cranley Nursery is proud to partner with Edinburgh City Council to deliver this funding. It begins the term after your child’s third birthday, further reducing costs for families.
Universal Credit for Childcare Costs
Families on low incomes may qualify to claim back up to 85% of childcare costs through Universal Credit. This support is especially beneficial for parents balancing work and childcare responsibilities.
